Queen Underwood Receives Olympic Wildcard Birth
All three women on the U.S. Olympic boxing team will get to go to London.
Lightweight Queen Underwood wasn’t able to qualify for the London games via the AIBA Women’s Boxing Championships in China last month, so her fate was in the hands of the Tripartite Selection committee. The committee announced her invitation Monday.
Underwood lost a close decision to Ingrid Enger of Norway in the third round of the AIBA tournament. Underwood joins flyweight Marlen Esparza, and middleweight Claressa Shields in London.
The women’s London Olympic boxing tournament starts Aug. 5 and will air on one of the NBC based networks.
