Anne-Sophie Mathis Named WBAN Fighter of the Year
She was involved in one of the biggest matches of the year, and KO-ed one of the best fighters in the sport today. Now, she is the WBAN Fighter of the Year.
WBAN Independent World Welterweight title and IBA champion Anne-Sophie Mathis (26-1) won the award this week, which was determined by a fan vote. Mathis was the overwhelming favorite.
Going 4-0 in 2011, Mathis’s match with Holly Holm was also a co-winner for Fight of the Year, and was named KO of the Year by the women’s boxing authority. She also was awarded European fighter of the year.
Other winners include Amateur Fighter of the Year Ireland’s Katie Taylor, and Trainer of the Year Ann “Brown Sugar” Wolfe.
