Award Winning Film Shows Women are Never Too Old for Boxing
There are many more mature women taking up fighting sports, and a movie out of Japan is bringing that trend to light.
“Fighting Okan” is the fictional story of a 38-year old woman’s dream of becoming a professional boxer and the impact on her family. Saya Saeki (played by Nakazawa Yuko) is a loving mother of two children and a loving wife. One day, Saeki’s husband files for divorce. To alleviate stress, she takes up boxing and finds a new dream of becoming a pro-fighter.
Director Naoki Maeda has won awards from the film all atound the world; including Indie Fest and the Alabama Film Festival. It opened in Japan this past month, but no word on if any U.S. independent theaters will have the film.
Expect it to be on DVD in 2012 though.
